Pit Paste

September 10, 2017

In my quest to make healthier choices and be more aware of the “nasties” in the products around me,

making my own deodorant had been on my “to-do” list for quite some time. One day (after being without deodorant for at least two days), I decided it was time to make some pit paste.  And I am sure my family was thanking me!

Here is how I did it:

4 Tbsp virgin coconut oil

1/4 cup baking soda

1/4 cup arrowroot powder

8 drops melaleuca essential oil

4 drops frankincense essential oil

2 drops roman chamomile essential oil

A few drops of whatever other essential oils sound good at the time (such as lavender or a calming blend).

In a small glass bowl, mix together the softened virgin coconut oil (usually room temperature), baking soda and arrowroot.  Stir in the oils.  Press the mixture into a clean, empty deodorant container or store in an air tight glass jar.  I store mine in a glass jar.  A pea size of paste per pit, gently rubbed around a few times should do the trick.

A word of advice…don’t over rub or your pits will hate you. Yes, I am speaking from experience.  It can be ouchie!  It doesn’t hurt to label the jar either.  Otherwise your sister-in-law might possibly mistake it for body butter and induce a “razor burn” like pain all over her legs.  Yep, speaking from experience on that one too.

You may also want to find an alternative if you are hopping a plane to an area with overly warm climate or your pit paste will be more like pit soup.

A more natural approach. Gotta love it. Enjoy!
